Logical Reasoning Reviewer 3 ( Spatial Ability: Map Reading)
Some people seem to have a good sense of direction when it comes to finding an efficient way to their destination. This Map Reading practice exam will test your ability to imagine a 3D situation on a 2D piece of paper. Just put yourself into the map and follow the directions. The trick in answering this type of test is to imagine yourself inside the map. Once you have placed yourself at the right spot and are facing the correct direction, you can follow instructions that tell you to go right or go left. Questions dealing with absolute directions (north, south, east, and west) are easier because you can simply refer to the compass on the map.

Question 1. Sanitation Workers Kazinski and Benning are completing a routine pick-up at the Livingston Avenue Mall at the southeast corner of the building. Dispatch notifies them of a special pick-up at a residence located at the northwest corner of Canyon Drive and Linda Lane. What is the quickest route for Kazinski and Benning to take?
A. turn north on Amhoy Road, then east on Linda Lane, and then north on Canyon Drive
B. turn east on McMahon Street, then north on El Camino, then west on Linda Lane, then north on Orinda Road, and then east on Barcelona Boulevard to Canyon Drive
C. turn north on Amhoy Road, then east on Barcelona Boulevard, and then south on Canyon Drive
D. turn north on Amhoy Road, then east on Bortz Road, then north on Orinda Road, and then east on Barcelona Boulevard
Answer: C
The simplest way around the one way streets and Town Hall is choice C. Because Linda Lane is one-way the wrong way, some backtracking is inevitable. However, the residence is only one block from Barcelona Boulevard, and so turning east on Barcelona requires the least amount of backtracking. Choice A directs the sanitation workers to turn the wrong way down a one-way street. Choice B requires too much backtracking. Choice D leaves the workers on Barcelona Boulevard, not on Linda Lane.
Look at the street plan carefully and answer the question.
Question 2: You are at the intersection of Town Road and Moon Drive. You drive the following route: North on Moon Drive, left on the second road, left on the first road, east on the second road, right on the first road, west on the first road, stop at the first intersection. Which of these places is closest to your new position?
